Counting Calories

Day 8 is almost in the books. We have added a few additional antibiotics to reduce Drew's risk of developing an infection. He has a few complaints of pains here and there, but on average he had a very good day. We have been assigned the task of counting calories: applesauce 60, gatorade 50, pudding 110, wildberry resource drink 250, a scandi shake is 520 but with Breyers ice cream bumps us up to 750 calories!!! Drew's goal is 2500 a day which before this would have been an easy task. A bit of a challenge these days - not sure how long calories have to stay down in order to count? Question for the doctors in the morning.

To date, Drew has been able to avoid nutrition via IV - but with his taste buds not tasting anything (due to the radiation and chemo) and mucositis in his digestive track, our food options are limited. By the way, items unable to be on the list are: anything fresh (fruits and vegetables), pepper (contains some kind of fungus - don't panic- healthy immune systems handle it just fine), leftovers (just in case the food hasn't been kept at the correct temperature), and nothing from a buffet (who knows how long the food has been sitting there). Everything MUST be easy on the digestive track. We are learning so much.

Calories and walking are our focus.

Hurrah for Breyers! Surely some wet walnuts and chocolate fudge could up the count a bit. Oh how I wish we could help you with the weight - there are many of us willing to donate! Lots of prayers, hugs and kisses (unfortunately they contain no calories). Dora

Have you tried baby food yet? Probably not much in calories, but might stay on the tummy. The Junior stuff has consistency. Am sure you've thought of all this. At any rate, you could then let WB know what's good and what's not...lol. Have a great day and a better day tomorrow!! Love and prayers to all.
