The Calm Before the ???
Drew's contributions to today's activities were a few coughs, a few hand squeezes, and opening his eyes once or twice.He did his job well. All the numbers went well. Wanda is doing so well that the team has stopped giving some extra medicines to make her grow any faster. As of tonight, he was at the minimal settings for the ventilator and his blood pressure was great, so the doctors may try to extubate him tomorrow (nice word for jerking the tubes out of his throat). That could prepare him to return to his eager nurses on the transplant ward room by the weekend.
Those who have known Drew for a few days (the ICU team) believe Drew will be groggy and come back slowly. Those of us who have known him for 23 years believe they could be in for a dynamic few days. Keeping him in a bed (with a gown and lots of tubes in lots of places) may be a bit stormy.
Then they can explain the 20 extra pounds, and the extra holes they made, and why he is getting insulin shots and drugs in three tubes going in his neck as well as three in his chest and why his hands are tied to the bed. Yep, it should be quite a tornado.

De-tubing doesn't sound like much fun - but today's report sure is encouraging. Go Wanda! Go Drew! Hurrah for Team L! Prayers continue. D
Wow ... what a tumultuous few days since I last read the blog page! The first thing that'll rile Drew will be the gown for sure! Good news re Wanda doing her job so well. After my experience with the cyclone in Cairns in March ... I can really imagine what speed the wind gusts will be blowing as Drew awakens from his slumber and comes to terms with all the medical procedures which have taken place in recent days ! The power of the source energy within us grows exponentially as each individual taps into it and collectively connects us to Drew. And while it is true that he is in the storm, he is at the same time being cradled by the light surrounding him. He will soon be able to see the light for himself. The Game IS ON!
