On blogs and such

It comes as no surprise that this blog has been both therapy and a labor of love, as well as a great way to keep friends on several continents informed.

Each night, we have sorted out our emotions, our facts, our good news and our worst fears via our blog. We satisfied the teachers in us to educate our audience on medical topics we ourselves had first understood only hours before. We were not cancer literate, or transplant literate, and we certainly were not death literate. But we thought people cared, so we wrote. It is hard to end our story now. With almost 10,000 unique visits to the blog so far, we hate to stop.

Some family members commented that, at first, they could tell who was writing, Boxley or Jane. But they had more trouble picking the author as the days went on. We often took turns, but if one penned the draft, the other edited and elaborated. As time went on, did Boxley pick up more emotion and Jane pick up more analysis? Who knows. This adventure certainly made us grow closer in many other ways, so maybe in writing style as well.

We were introduced at Drew’s service Saturday to several folks who knew us only through our blog – a friend sharing the blog had made them feel too close to us not to come. They said it was as if they were reading a novel, and they wanted to meet the characters in person. The Drew Stories filled in so much about the main character and hero.

We have exposed more of our family than we expected, but we have not regretted it nor has anyone abused it. The comments were special, and they often cheered Drew or made him laugh. Eliza, who we thank for setting up GAMEON2, presented us with a printed book of the entire blog with your comments Saturday, staying up all night to prepare it. The book she produced will be a permanent part of our lives, even if Internet blogs give way to some other format in the future.

Soon we will be ready for more reflection, and maybe a bit of wisdom. Today, we simply slumped on the sofa, watched the World Cup (ouch), and took turns holding the grandbaby and making tough phone calls and short-term plans.

Stay with us a bit longer....we may need the therapy you provide.

There is no doubt the blog has become the new "Best Seller". I love to read and I find myself reading it with any spare time I have in the day. Many, many years ago, we all spend each week-end together on the ball fields, @ some hotel for a tournament or simply @ someones home preparing for the next soccer event. It has been good getting back together with each of you through our words on the Blog...... We are here, keep writing....... hugs and kisses, susie and family

Checking your blog became an integral part of my day, like my morning coffee. The circumstances around it were awful, but it was so great to connect with two dear ole (no 'd') friends each morning. I'll be here as long as you are.....

Love,

Scott Cox and girls

I have always felt it a priviledge that you shared this personal journey with us ... in doing so, it really did enable us to feel connected in a special way despite our physical constraints. You were obviously keen to learn what all the terminologies mean't and by relaying the daily stories, your wonderful ability to tell "us novices" using "layman" terms was much appreciated.
No doubt there will a range of emotions you will go through over the coming days, weeks & months ... the best thing you guys have going for you is knowing that you have so much support around you. My thoughts continue to be with you all ... love, Jill Grimm

Boxley, Jane, Mary, Melissa, & Ben:
The blog made me feel as if I was there experiencing this with you and helped the ache in my heart that I could not.I have gone to the blog each day for so long now that I will feel bereft without it.I have cried, laughed, yelled at the unfairness with you. I am sure it was good therapy for you but it was also for us that could not be there. Love, Barbara
